Unsung Hero 2024 Movie Summary & Review – Spoiler Alert

By: Brandon Ruggiero

On April 26th, 2024, Lionsgate Films released a new movie called Unsung Hero. On opening weekend, I was able to see it in theaters. The first trailer I saw of this movie was a few months back during my viewing of Ordinary Angels, another Lionsgate production. After seeing the preview and looking at articles on Google, I became fascinated with the plot, the message and most of all the inspiring story. I knew once it came out I had to see it, and I’m so glad I did.

This movie is based on a true story about the family of theChristian pop band, For King and Country and the Christian singer Rebecca St. James. The movie starts in the year 1991, when David Smallbone and his wife, Helen, uproot their family and seek refuge in Nashville after David’s music company in Australia collapses. They face financial struggles, the task of starting over in a foreign country, David’s dad passing, and the challenge of maintaining hope and faith. Helen’s strong faith and David’s determination keep the family moving forward helps their children gain a sense of hope and resilience. Later on in the story, we see one of the children, Rebecca St. James, grow her musical talents and navigate the competitive music industry. At the end, after much rejection and doubt, Rebecca gets a record deal with Forefront Records, and the ending credits show her having a successful career and becoming a successful Christian recording artist. The ending credits also show the development of the later formed Christian pop duo For King and Country, which is two of the Smallbone brothers. They have also had a very successful career since their formation in 2007.

I really enjoyed this movie for its story, message, theme, and plot. I also really enjoyed the acting and the characters. When watching this movie, I knew it was going to be one of my all time favorites. This film far exceeded my expectations. I felt a myriad of emotions, and found myself constantly rooting for the characters. This is a movie I truly feel our world needs to see, because it is a movie that is uplifting and positive. I honestly believe with all the negativity in our world that this movie can bring a lot of joy. I hope anyone who sees this review decides to watch this movie. I promise you, you will enjoy it and will not be disappointed.
