As the days grow longer and the warmth of the sun becomes more pronounced, anticipation builds for the arrival of summer vacation. This welcomed break allows students to unwind from the daily stress of school and participate in their other areas of interest. However, in these final days of the school year, it can be difficult to maintain focus and perform your best. This is why it is important to have end of the school year activities that break the routine of daily life. Fortunately, for the students at Hamden High School there are several end of the year activities that are enjoyable, entertaining, and educational.
There are numerous school sanctioned events that are preparing our student body for the much anticipated summer vacation. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Chalk Fest at Hamden High School. This event will take place on May 22nd and the theme is fashion. Permission slips and payment for this activity is due by Thursday, May 16th in order to participate. This event is a great way to showcase your creativity and enjoy time with friends. Another end of the year activity is the Hamden Games which will be held on May 24th. On this day all the 6th graders from Hamden elementary schools will have the opportunity to compete against each other in a series of outdoor field games. This is a great opportunity for high school students to volunteer in the community and spend active time outdoors. Hamden High School is also excited to announce the 2nd annual Multicultural Festival which will be held on June 5th. At this event you will be able to immerse yourself in the cultures and practices of others by exploring the booths of each cultural club. Lastly, there are several events being hosted by the fine arts department including the From Here musical on May 17th and 18th, the Tri-M Induction on May 21st, and the chorus concert on May 29th.
There are also numerous important dates to remember in the area of academics. Advanced Placement Exams end this Friday, May 17th and scores will be released in July to your College Board account. Finals begin on June 7th and will go until June 12th; with an additional makeup day on June 13th. Finals will run from periods 1 through 8, with two exams per day. If you took an AP exam and have an 80% or higher in that class you do not need to take the final and if you are a senior taking a half year class with a 90% or higher you are exempt from that final.
Finally, there are several upcoming activities for the senior class to participate in before graduation. The senior trip to Lake Compounce is on May 30th from 9-5. Prom is on June 7th and is being held at the Aqua Turf Club. The theme for this year is 24 Karat Magic and the event will be held from 6:30-10:30. Permission slips and payment are being accepted now until Friday, May 17th. The cost of prom is $90, cash only. Finally, graduation is less than a month away being held on June 13th.
