The Mainstage Ensemble’s first play of the year is coming this Friday! Opening night is this Friday (11/15), and all students can get tickets at the door for $5 on opening night only. General admission is $15, and the price for students, staff, and seniors is $10. The play is Picnic by William Inge. Picnic is a three-act play, written in 1953, that details a Labor Day party and the accompanying romantic intrigue of two families in Kansas. Their normal lives are disrupted when Hal, an attractive vagabond, comes into town. The main characters are Madge, a pretty young woman who wants a more exciting life; Millie, Madge’s bookish sister; Flo, their overly protective mother; and Helen Potts, their neighbor who is a widow and a romanticist. There is a performance on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday (11/16) at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Sunday (11/17) at 2 p.m. You seat yourself, so be sure to get there early. The set and costumes look beautiful, too, so come see the theater department’s hard work pay off!
