Ever since that fateful day in October, Hamden High School has been without an effective intercom system, and lost complete function of the class bells. Everyone was confused originally, but some people have created some very interesting opinions and remedies about the situation. While some people have suggested both the school’s clocktower bell and some more unorthodox remedies to solve the school’s bell dilemma, I for one prefer the bell-less schedule. While the school has had no bell for nearly 6 months now, business has essentially continued undisturbed, and I feel more at ease without it. The bell was always monotonous, uninspiring and lifeless; it had a sharp single tone that was so dull there is nothing else to say about it. I personally feel more comfortable with blurred lines between classes. Iit puts less pressure on me to rush to class, removing an unnecessary source of stress. Not everyone shares my sense of tranquility in the absence of that regulative warden; some are very vocal about the issue of returning the bells as soon as possible, making the argument that a school cannot function without its bells. What do you think, is Hamden High better with or without its bells?
