For Whom The Bell Tolls

After four and a half long months, the bells at Hamden High have started ringing again (I guess they’ll have to revoke our no bell prize). I, for one, am glad to see this change come about. As a person with ADHD, my brain has a horrible sense of time. When the bells were broken, I would repeatedly glance at the clock, anticipating the end of the period, distracting me from my learning. But that is no longer a worry for me and my absent minded peers, as I now just wait to hear the bell to pack up and leave. When the bell rings to signal the start of a new class, I know to take my materials out and start focusing. Without these alerts, I am often startled by reminders from the teachers. The return of the intercom is a nice bonus, allowing announcements whenever they are needed. This helps keep me (and everyone) up to date. Many students that I have talked to are decidedly anti-bell. But, it’s just a noise, mildly annoying at worst, and it doesn’t cause any real harm. Also, before the bells broke, no one complained at all. In my opinion, this is a change for the better. What do you think?
