A Short Recap of the HHS Girls Swim and Dive Team’s Season

The girls swim and dive team had an amazing, productive season. They won 11 out of their 14 meets, with the remaining three being ties and losses. They were also the Division Two champions. Terri White, a sophomore who is a diver and a swimmer, said that they had a very productive season. White said, “[I got] new personal records. [I became a] better diver than last year. I learned that swimming and diving are more about technique rather than strength. I also [realized] that diving is a mental thing rather than a physical one.” White also remarked about how they learned more about “staying hollow,” which is the practice of tucking one’s shoulders in. They also grew closer together as a team. At the beginning of the season, everyone was “shy.” However, everyone became “tight.” A memorable moment for White was the team sleepover, which was at Francesca Debs’ house, a senior who is the captain. White said that watching Hocus Pocus and Descendants, as well as going to Best Video, were “really fun.” Another memorable thing was the food; White said that “pasta parties are another great part of the sport.” As for changes to the training, the dryland training was very different, as they did much less yoga. White said that this change didn’t affect their performance.
