Every year, the town of Hamden holds a billboard contest for students who reside in the town. More specifically, the town of Hamden Youth Services Bureau and Hamden Public Schools are working towards spreading prevention and positive vibes. Prevention of what exactly? While the billboard contest’s theme of recent has been “change the script” against drug abuse, there are numerous topics students can display in their submitted artwork. Contestants are encouraged to create a slogan that artfully demonstrates their opposition and their fight for more work towards the following: vaping, alchohol, suicide, mental health, marijuana, and opioids.
This contest, supported and sponsored through a grant by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, is designed to encourage today’s youth to participate in positive projects and be cautious of harmful substances, drugs, and negative thoughts and actions. Moreover, this contest has been very successful in its endeavors. There have been many beautiful and inspiring artworks displayed throughout the town of Hamden that inspire the people who see it to have a more positive outlook on life and to be mindful of problems facing the younger generation.
If you are interested in participating in the contest, you should note that winners have their artwork exhibited on Hamden billboards throughout the town. There is also a handsome financial incentive! Third place will receive $300, second place $500, and first place, a whopping $750. All you must do is complete your art projection on the designated layout and turn it into your school office by April 20, 2020. Contestants are encouraged to use bold colors and have their display simple enough to understand in a short amount of time. Remember that you can display any topic listed previously, but it should embody a healthy and cheerful message.
