Is Uber a job that allows anyone to make $90,000 a year?

Uber has made that claim for its Uber X drivers, but don’t get your hopes up. Just because Uber says drivers can make $90,000 a year doesn’t mean it’s true. In reality the average driver only makes around $35,000, and that’s with 40 hours a week and providing a car and insurance. Uber X drivers told Business Insider’s Megan Rose Dickey: “If you want to make ninety thousands dollars a year you have to work more than 40 hours” and “you’ll kill yourself trying” (http://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-money-uber-drivers-really-make-2014-7).

If you want to make money with Uber, it’s best to have your own car. Yes, Uber is willing to lease you a car, but then most of your money is going straight back to them. You won’t be making any money for yourself, and you could end up like Maya Warren, signed up when she was pregnant and broke. She hoped Uber would help her through a tough time. Instead, when she had to quit, she still had to make payments on her lease (Danielle Pauette: For someone who does not already have a car, however, Uber may say it can help, but in reality they are just helping themselves). That sent her deeper into debt.. Working Uber is not for everyone.
